点评:Strictly speaking, this isn't a maze, but a unicursal Labyrinth which follows a single route to the centre. It is one of only 8 surviving turf mazes in the country and has been recut several times. It is in need of recutting again!
It is thought it may have been cut by Benedictine monks around 1200, who had a small priory cell here. However, the earliest known reference is by a Yorkshire diarist in 1697.
Don't miss the plan of the maze on the floor of the chuch porch. (It is also found on the village sign as well as the Coronation Club.)
There is parking by the maze but for those wanting a walk, it is on the footpath along the edge of the cliff from Burton Stather to Whitton. There are supoerb views across Alkborough Flats from here.
It is worth finding.Alkborough village is also an interesting small village to walk round and don't miss the homemade cakes in the Paddocks Tea Room!
