点评:To visit, stop at the Hogback Mountain Country Store. There was construction when we visited, so we parked just passed the store in the next lot as we couldn't see other parking and then walked back on the highway to the store. Since it is one way traffic, you can walk along the road without meeting passing cars if you time it right.
You purchase tickets upstairs and then head downstairs for the self-guided tour. There is a collection of preserved Vermont creatures. Many of these are illegal to collect now and the man who preserved them was given a special permit to finish his collection when the rules changed. For that reason, It is a more complete representation of the area's wildlife than you will generally be able to find.
There are live creatures: birds, opossum, turtles, snakes, cockroaches, and a tarantula. When we visited it was feeding time for the birds. There was no one available to take animals or birds out for us to handle as other reviewers mentioned.
The live creatures are in the collection because they are unable to survive in the wild because of accidents or birth defects. They are allowed to harbor the animals to teach about the species. It is larger than other sanctuaries that we've been too because of the component of preserved wildlife.
There is also a large window to see the 100 mile view.
