The centre of the town this bright, seaside village set in County Cork is most known for its kaleidoscope of colours that adorn the small houses along the narrow streets. Kinsale sits at the mouth of riven Bandon making ingredients from the land, such as fresh produce and dairy products, and fresh sea readily available. There’s not much to see in town which can be to explored within 15 minutes, but if explored in detail there is much to learn.
Forthill promontory sits at the mouth of the Kinsale harbour with Fort Charles, which was built between 1677 and 1682 as it was expected Kinsale would be attacked from sea.
Further afield there is a part of the Wild Atlantic Way; Kinsale is the starting point for this iconic drive. The Wild Atlantic Way is a scenic coastal route stretching over 1,500 miles along Ireland’s rugged western coast. From sheer cliffs, expansive beaches, and rolling hills dotted with charming towns, the Wild Atlantic Way is one of the best road trips in Ireland any time of the year, similar to the North Coast Road in Scotland but it is 3 times longer.
