点评:Amanohashidate has been often given the nickname "Kyoto by the Sea", however that is quite misleading. Unlike places like Kyoto and Nara, this is not a place renowned for its traditions, grand temples and royal past. This place on the contrary has the ambience of a beautiful Japanese village (albeit touristy) near the sea. You come here not for the Temples and Shrines (though there are few good ones like Chion Ji) but for walking or cycling through the beautiful sandbar, relaxing on the beach playing host to turquoise coloured waves and adorned by pine trees and most importantly to go up by cable car or chair lift to see one of the three most famous scenic views in Japan.
Just a note of caution. This place is not for foodies, shopping junkies or clubbing enthusiasts. This place is purely for nature lovers. You can get Amanohashidate beer, few Amanohashidate themed merchandise and pretty average Japanese food here. There is however a nice cafe near Amanohashidate station that serves good coffee and snacks and also has original newspaper cuttings of Neil Armstrong moon landing.
