Passu Glacier的点评
点评：It is hard to put into words just how amazing this area is. The scenery is magnificent.
The Passu Cones were striking against the clear blue sky.
The Passu glacier is located close by to the Karakoram Highway. It is well signed.
Trekking there is a joy. The nature that surrounds you is utterly breathtaking.
The glacier is white, meaning that it has a much brighter look to it in the sunlight and a blueish tinge.
There are different routes to the glacier. It can be viewed from above or below.
I viewed it from above which involved a fairly easy 20-30 minute walk along a trail before you get your first view of the glacier.
From the first viewpoint you can continue through an area called Death Valley (so called because there was once a village at this location that disappeared after a glacial lake outburst, leading to many deaths) which is around another 2kms
As you near the end of Death Valley you see a trail leading up the mountainside and which leads to the second viewpoint.
You can then climb downwards towards the glacier. This terrain is more dangerous and involves clambering over rocks and boulders.
The glacier is a must see. It is sad to know that due to climate change it is retreating at an alarming rate.
The meltwaters of this glacier help provide freshwater to the many people who live downstream in the valleys of the Indus River. The Passu glacier meltwater feeds the Hunza River which flows into the Gilgit River and then finally joins the Indus River.
