点评:This is a beautifully laid-out shrine area for the priest who is considered to be Mauritius’s own saint. (He has been beatified but not yet canonised, in 2024). The story of Pere Laval is told movingly in a small museum which has exhibits such as his original doctoral thesis from when he studied medicine in Paris, letters he wrote from his work in Mauritius, and even an ornate pair of curtains which he had turned into a decoration for the church when he left his medical practice and became a priest. He lies in a coffin in the shrine area surrounded by plaques which are voted of thanks from Mauritians over the years for graces obtained, and there is a moving photo of Pope St John Paul II kneeling in front of his coffin - one saint visiting the shrine of another. The modern church is peaceful and beautiful. This priest gave his all for the people of Mauritius and a visit to his shrine is a moving and uplifting experience.
