Escaping the Theme Parks: An Evening at Old Town Kissimmee

点评：On our last visit to Old Town Kissimmee in August 2022, we had such a great time that we promised ourselves we'd come back for the famous car show and cruise.
The weekly Old Town Car Show has been running on Saturday nights for nearly 35 years and attracts a large, eclectic crowd. We spent a leisurely couple of hours browsing the shops along Old Town Boulevard before enjoying a couple of outdoor drinks from the Old Town General Store. They were reasonably priced, ice cold, and even served in brown paper bags!
We also treated ourselves to a sneaky, and rather pricey, daiquiri from Fat Tuesday. It definitely hit the spot and helped cool us down in the muggy evening air.
A live band, Smooth Play, was performing, and we enjoyed watching them before heading over to admire the cars. We're certainly no experts, but we saw plenty of classic Americana on four wheels, including several iconic vehicles we recognized from movies and TV shows. The cars gleamed under the lights, and their owners were clearly proud to show them off.
Before the 8:30 p.m. car cruise, we grabbed seats along the main street. The playing of the American national anthem, always a highlight for us, signaled the start of the parade.
Unfortunately, we had picked a poor viewing spot. We'd heard the cruise route was a loop, but the cars never came back our way, so we missed a large portion of the procession.
This was another enjoyable visit to Old Town Kissimmee. While many visitors focus on the theme parks, we highly recommend spending an evening here as a welcome break from the theme park bubble during your Florida vacation.

晚上8点半的车展开始前，我们在主街上找了个位置坐下。美国国歌的奏响是我们最期待的环节，它也标志着游行正式开始。
可惜我们选的观景点不太理想。我们原本听说车展路线是个环形路线，但实际上车辆并未再从我们这边经过，因此我们错过了大部分的游行过程。这又是一次愉快的基西米老城之旅。虽然很多游客都把注意力放在主题公园上，但我们强烈建议大家在佛罗里达度假期间，抽一个晚上来这里，从热闹的主题公园氛围中暂时抽离出来，好好放松一下。
