点评:Our guide was outstanding. Very knowledgeable and informative, she was well able to answer any questions. Some decent displays and info boards. The video/animation was very well put together. Well worth a visit and reasonably priced.
Do think seating/benches should be provided along the tour route as my daughter who has special needs found standing uncomfortable (and I wasn't much better myself) The part of the workhouse you visit has been repurposed as a civic amenity so the atmosphere of what the workhouse was really like is lost. Parts of the original workhouse no longer exist and some buildings are inaccessible as they are in disrepair/for health and safety reasons. It would be nice if they were not done to death in order to capture something of the feel of the original buildings.
I was fortunate to visit Bawnboy a number of years ago (unofficially) and the hairs on the back of our necks stood up, there were straw mattresses still on the floor and stretchers on the walls, you could sense the desolation and desperation especially in the tiny punishment cells with their stone beds worn by the rocking of hundreds of inmates.
