Great 9-hole course, ideal for starters!

点评：I only started playing golf this year and Cocken Lodge was the first course I tried as I had received advice that it was ideal for beginners. Having played for a few months, and now a member at a larger local course, I can back that up! But don’t let the “for beginners” tag put anyone off…this course is fun for golfers of all abilities.
The course itself comes in at a Par 29, with 7 par threes and 2 Par 4s. Bunkers, ponds and testing greens are all in play, and the course itself is always in tip top condition. It copes well in all weathers and the ground staff do a wonderful job of maintaining it (which is sometimes an issue at Par 3 courses). It costs £13 for 9 holes or £20 for 18, which is on the pricier end, but you get really good value in the range of holes.
The course opens with two nice straight Par 3s that will get you into the swing of things, before a short Par 4 will give you chance to get the driver out. Water comes into play on Hole 4 which has a challenging sloping green with Hole 5 being a short Par 3 that will really test your range. An elevated tee greets you on Hole 6, and Hole 7 is a testing hole which is almost blind from the tea. If you can curve your shots nicely it’s a great challenge. Hole 8 is the longest Par 4 on offer, and again with bunkers, a sloped green, water and a ditch…it’s the hardest hole on the course. The course finishes with a bowl green that requires an accurate tee shot. All in all in terms of Par 3 hole variety this hole has it all!
There is a practice area that includes a bunker and a green too which I find useful, and a decent driving range on hand that costs £3 for 30 balls.
The course tends to play quickly, and the community seem friendly (as a solo player I always appreciate playing through) and every experience I have had here has been nothing but first class……
