Fun but Very Noisy
Pocono Slingshot Rentals的点评
点评：I love the look of the Slingshot which is truly unique. The staff were very kind and professional and walked us through the process of how to operate the vehicle, fitting us for our helmets, etc. The view from the top of Big Pocono State Park is absolutely beautiful. We also visited the Mountain View Vineyard which was also very beautiful and offered food for sale along with wine of course. Driving through the back roads and up and down the Pocono area is definitely what makes this fun.
However, I rated this as 4 stars due to the condition of the Slingshot. These were 2022 Slingshot R models and both of the manual transmission Slingshots we rented only had about 8,000 miles on the odometer. Although it was VERY clean, the noise level coming from the engine and especially the drive belt were overwhelming. The engine noise is to be expected due the design of the open cockpit but the drivebelt gave off this loud whine or screeching sound that was quite annoying. If we put it in neutral and coasted down a hill, the noise disappeared. The harder push the engine by giving it gas, the louder the screeching sound was. We went as 2 couples (husband and wife in our 50s) and didn't drive the Slingshots except on a few occasions. We had to yell to speak to each other (except while in neutral and coasting).
While I do think the drive belt could have been adjusted or tuned to keep the noise to a minimum, I don't think this was the fault of Pocono Rentals. I did some research on the Polaris Slingshots and it turns out the noises I described are just what you get when you own a Slingshot. I just wanted people to be aware of the noise and the inability to speak to each other while driving. If you're OK with that, you'll have a great time.
