点评:Loved this stop - we went a bit out of the way to get here.....very interesting and worthwhile. Even though the mounds are small (compared to Cahokia) , the animal shapes were different and impressive. You have to do a bit of a hike to see the bear shaped ones but it is worth it, and a couple nice view points to see along the way. The visitors center was nice with small museum, shop, and as usual, wonderful knowledgeable rangers. We spent about 2 hrs total here doing the roughly 2 mile hike to the Great bear mound and back, and seeing the museum. The trail is steep ,switchback in areas, and in some places had drop offs right at edge of trail...would not advise for young children or if walking is difficult for you, but I'm a not super fit 61 yr old and I did it! .... It was mulched, and mostly shaded. If you want to walk only a short distance, a small conical mound is right by the visitors center out the boardwalk. I saw pictures of the mounds outlined in white rocks but apparently they no longer do that...the area around them is mowed and markers point them out. It was a warm day but I am glad we hiked to the bear mounds. I really wanted to see them. You could feel the sacredness of the area. We should support our wonderful national parks and monuments that preserve the amazing history and wonders of the U S A.
