点评:I recommend going when it's busy, maybe in the Summer on a weekend. I assume there would be more re-enactors and more going on.
We went on a weekday in September, and there weren't many visitors there. So, there weren't as many re-enactors there. So, it felt like less was going on. There were parts of the site that were just closed buildings without much explanation of what they were. So, I assume it would be more lively during the high tourist season.
However, most of the people who were there doing the re-enactments were very friendly and enthusiastic to tell us about the history of the ranch and the various buildings. Unlike some of these living history sites where the people act like they are genuinely from the time, these people aren't putting on an act. Yes, they are dressed in the period clothing and doing period activities, but they tell you about the history.
The two room schoolhouse (one for the school, one where the teacher lived) was the highlight. The man playing the "teacher" was very interesting and knowledgeable. We learned a lot of interesting things from him.
However, in the areas of the museum where there wasn't anyone around, there were just buildings that you didn't learn much about. So, that's why I recommend going when it's busy. I recommend spending 2 - 3 hours here.
