点评:This 7-day expedition was for me an experience of a lifetime. I had never before been to Haida Gwaii nor kayaked for more than a couple of days a time. I have been to the temperate rainforests of Vancouver Island. While I didn't find the nature to be that different, this was more isolated, and lucky for us, the paddling conditions and weather were perfect. For me the highlight was the three visits to Haida watchmen sites, where we were met by engaging Haida people , ranging from an 85 year old to a 20 year old, who told us about the history and the culture, and shared their own stories with us. Our guides were excellent, patient, and seemed happy to answer any number of questions. The trip felt very well organized; the food was surprisingly good, lots of fresh vegetables and variety, and sensitivity to people's dietary restrictions. I'm 70, not in great shape, and it was more rigorous than I was expecting, with 6 hours of paddling a day and the lugging of stuff and kayaks involved with changing camp every night--we traveled up the coast from Burnaby Narrows north, for a total of 110 kilometers. It was great though, very happy I did it, though I'm not sure next time I would pick a trip where the camps change every night.
