Unforgatable memories created thanks to Kori Safaris

点评：My wife and I did a short 4 day safari to see the gorillas and chimps organized by Kori safaris and Maggie in the office. Maggie was professional in her approach to help and offered several options and answered all my questions. They even helped with a few last minute add on ideas of things I wanted to see not on the normal tour. I had chosen one specific lodge to stay at and Maggie suggested a different one based on expereince and she was 100% correct. The lodge that we stayed at was spectacular and the service/food excellent. After 3 weeks in Africa and about a dozen lodges and camps later, Maggie picked the best one!
Paul was at the airport to greet us and took excellent care of of us the entire time. He was professional and friendly. He would quietly speak with rangers and ensure we were paired up with rangers he knew well to see the Gorillas and chimps thus in good hands when not in his direct care. When we were called to meet our ranger, he was always standing next to them to help introduce us and make sure we were all set to go. He is an excellent driver and ensured our saftety the entire trip. The only issue we had was that he was too soft spoken to hear him while driving. We reserved our questions for rest stops and the lodges and he provided excellent, insightful, and educated answers.
We only had 4 days (we were squeezing a gorilla trip in before a longer safari in Kenya with friends) and found the amount of driving too much for this amount of time. Maggie did warn us so she was right....but alas I only have so much time off work so we had to make it work. I would suggest anyone driving from Entebee to see the Gorillas and Chimps to consider 5 or 6 days and a rest day in there. We were beat after a 10 hour drive in and again out of the mountains. That was on us, but some advice for others to avoid that mistake.
They also organized a Batwa community walk. It was probably one of the best, if not the most memorable part of our 24 day african adventure. We were alone with a guide and immersed into a forest tribe for an afternoon to learn about their culture and way of life. What an amazing experience. Just make sure you are wearing jungle wear and boots. We were told it just a walk to be comfortable and our sneakers were innapropriate for the hike in and out of the village we toured. My wife fell mutiple times sliding on the mud and rocks and I was caught once by a villager before falling myself. Maybe some of the other villages are easier, but we wished we were in hiking boots and clothes. Also be ready to get a pitch to donate money to the tribe at the end. It soured our mood at the time, but we chose to focus on the whole experience before the sale pitch, and that part was unforgetable.
Final piece of advice, request a larger safari vehicle (and pay more if you have to). As we were just a couple alone, we got a 4 passenger Land Cruiser which means we were in the backseat on a "bench seat" vs the individual captain or bucket seats you see in the larger extended Land Cruisers. While Paul kept the vehicle very clean (and we brought in lots of mud) 10 hours on a backseat bench was uncomfortable for us and we wish we had a larger vehicle with more comfortable individual / bucket seating. If you are in your 20's maybe not a big deal, but once you get into your 30's and beyond, those roads take a toll and the bench seat offers little comfort nor support.
Overall, when we go back to Uganda (for a longer trip) I will use Kori safaris without hesitation. Excellent job all around. Thank you to Paul and Maggie for helping making this an unforgetable trip and being great ambasadors for Uganda.
