点评:The 3 hour trip around the Udawalawe National Park was worth every penny. Within minutes after entering the park we have passed herds of deers and buffalo. It didn't take long before we came across peacocks, jackals, crocodiles and macaques. The guide always let us take our time and waited until we were done taking photos before moving on and had a very keen eye and often pointed out different species of lizards and exotic birds. However the elephants were the stars of the show, appearing both alone and in groups, I quickly lost track of how many we encountered. The highlight of the trip was our encounter with a family of elephants with a 2 month old calf. It was an incredible experience to watch the elephants interact with eachother in the wild; in a herd of about 10 elephants led by a giant male, the females covered the baby, ensuing it's safety, while the matriarch made sure the other young ones didn't get too close to the jeeps. Simply amazing. The number of elephants we've seen was a pleasant surprise, but as we got told, the visitors are much more likely to see them during the dry season, as during rainy seasons the have no need to travel to the watering holes as often. The park itself also offers breathtaking scenery: from grasslands accompanied by mountains over the horizon, to maze-like paths running through a dry mixed evergreen forest. Definitely worth the bumpy ride.
