点评:I was hesitant about making a visit to Elephant Whispers but satisfied myself of the centre’s animal welfare standards. There is an opportunity to ride in an elephant on occasion (they rest the animals so it’s not always possible) but I felt that this was inappropriate for me and decided to go on a walk with the elephants instead.
The six elephants at the centre are all rescue animals and are used to help educate visitors about these incredible, intelligent creatures. All training is done by rewarding the natural behaviour of the elephant and assigning it a command word. The handlers on the backs of the elephants were there to give food treats, there were no reins or controls.
The opportunity to see these magnificent creatures close-up, to touch them and to go for a short walk with them was wonderful, I found very spiritual and a great privilege.
