点评:Drove 5 hrs in hopes of learning more about Waightstill Avery, 1st Attorney General of NC, Colonel in the Revolution, involved in duel with Andrew Jackson...
The guide knew nothing about him & we found one reference to him in a photo note about someone else. You would think at least the legal section of the museum would note that a local resident was the 1st AG... The guide also needs to brush up on notes - a photo was pointed out & she said an "award given to/by Andrew Lloyd Webber"...we think she meant Frank Lloyd Wright as the photo referenced his home Taliesin.
But the visit was saved by the Burke County Library next door - the NC Room librarian very quickly pulled out books & multiple files on Avery.
Seems his local history is known to many, just not the History Museum.
It's a cursory look at a lot of happenings in the county - a wide look with some inaccuracies.
