点评:With the Windrush River running through the middle of the town, Bourton-on-the-Water (BOTW) is one of the very prettiest of the Cotswold towns. It’s also the busiest and the most ‘touristy’.
Windrush is only a small, narrow river, with shallow, slow-moving water that kids can paddle in. Little stone bridges criss-cross the river, ducks and swans glide past, and the shops are housed in charming honey-coloured stone cottages - it couldn’t be more picturesque.
It would be idyllic but for the summer swarms of tourists, the jam-packed car-parks and the incoming coaches.
Even so, we had a lovely hour or two here. We strolled along the grassy banks while others lay out in the sun and kids fed the ducks. We stopped for lunch and a drink at the Kingsbridge Inn alongside the river. They have a beer garden and a few outside tables where we could sit quietly overlooking the water.
