Simply exquisite wines in an unpretentious rural location

点评：What a brilliant set of wines we tasted! As is the case in most wine-producing areas, there are simply more wineries than you can visit for a tasting in a single trip, so choosing Craigie Knowe was decided by the toss of a coin. We had a last minute change of plans so we could only visit one winery on the day, and I'm glad we did! We were welcomed immediately on arrival by Milo, the young German shepherd who is fascinated by shadows that move when we walk. The cellar door and restaurant are nestled in the vines to create a rustic and unpretentious setting - the white marquee felt as if we'd perhaps come to the wrong place. But from the first sip of the first bottle my life changed. I'd not tasted many Tasmanian wines previously, but all seven Craigie Knowe wines that I tasted were simply superb. From the riesling through to the cabernet sauvignon, they all showed the same consistent features - delicious fruit flavours up front progressively softened by expertly balanced acidity to prevent the fruit from becoming too sweet, without being so dry that the acid sucks your cheeks in. All wines were blended exquisitely to the style of wine produced. I won't comment about each wine, otherwise I'd end up writing a book. But this was the best, most balanced wine tasting that I have experienced in a long time. And yes, I did buy a case.
