点评:We have never been on a Japanese outlying island so we wanted to see what it is like. Also my wife is a big cat lover.
The journey to the island required us to take a train, a community bus and a ferry. Journey time was more than an hour but it was a sunny day and we wanted to make full use of the nice weather. Do make sure to arrive at the bus station early for the community bus to the pier, as the queue does get long even on a weekday. I hear they have to turn people away on weekends.
On arrival on the island many local cats were already at the pier. As we walked around we saw more and my wife patted many of them. Although she did notice some were not very healthy. The island is not big and is easy to walk around.
We thought food would be scarce for visitors to the island so we brought snacks. But actually there were a couple of eateries available. A lady also gave out ad leaflets at the pier about her small restaurant that she runs by herself.
It seems the surrounding waters of the island is used by Mikimoto to grow pearls. But there is no information on the island.
Overall it is a good place to go for a few hours. We spent only about 2 hours here and I think it was enough. If you want to walk all the way around the island then you might need more time.
The cats are lovely but I don't think all of them are well looked after. Some are probably feral.
