Exceptional tour of a large impressive winery.

点评：Although we called by on a Saturday without an appointment, we had the best tour and tasting I’ve ever had in a big Greek winery. This was all down to the wonderful Dionysis, our guide.
First of all, he isn’t simply an employee who’s been briefed on what to say and given a script. He’s a trained oenologist and it shows. Secondly, he’s charming, open to questions, and endlessly willing to answer questions. Thirdly, he made all the processes of wine making interesting with the level of detail he effortlessly provided. This in spite of the many wineries in Greece I’ve visited - this was easily the most engaging and interesting tour I’ve ever made of a big, well established winery - smaller wineries are generally more charming and informal in my experience so I tend to prefer them.
My only negative comment is that the wines are very expensive. Although you get a 10% discount, it’s been my experience that buying directly from the winery is considerably cheaper than normal retail prices from Athens specialists like Botilia, Greece and Grapes, House of Wine etc - I normally expect that winery prices are about 2/3 - 3/4 of retail prices. This makes it worth making the trip and buying in bulk!
But on the whole this was a very positive experience. Big anonymous wineries can be quite soulless and the tours robotic, but the charm and professional knowledge of Dionysis made this an exception.
