点评:Despite the number of tourists who flock to Bondi Beach, few make it down to this northern end of the beach and even fewer will stumble across the lookout point on the Ben Buckler headland. The views from here are unbeatable but you probably need some local knowledge to find it.
There are actually three interconnected lookout points over 3 levels here.
Starting from lowest to highest, they are:
1. Ray O’Keefe Reserve
2. Sam Fiszman Park and finally,
3. Ben Buckler Point
You can drive up to Ben Buckler Point and walk back down the hill to see all three but it is very difficult to get street parking and the one tiny carpark at Ray O’Keefe Reserve is almost always full.
The best way to access the lookouts is to walk. You can easily walk between all three.
If you are walking from Bondi Beach, there are two routes.
We took the easier way, which was to walk from the North Bondi RSL Club, right to the end of Ramsgate Avenue (the other option is to follow the trail that runs past the tidal pool and scramble along the rocks until you reach a set of white wooden stairs). Both routes take you to the first lookout. This is a lovely vantage point, looking straight across to Bondi Beach and is especially beautiful at sunset.
The second, mid-level lookout, Sam Fiszman Park, sits immediately above Ray O’Keefe Reserve. It’s worth noting that despite the name, this is not really a park. It’s only a small area which consists of concrete stairs, a tiny circular patch of grass and the lookout point. There are no park-like facilities at all.
From here, we walked 100 metres up the road to the last and highest lookout, Ben Buckler Point. This has the most panoramic views and because of its height, we could see right down the south coast to the Clovelly and Maroubra headlands. When we turned in the other direction, we looked out across the vast ocean in a view that extended to the horizon. It was stunning and we lingered here for some time, just taking it all in.
