点评:This is a beautiful place but as we approached the lake, we decided to first go a few kilometres further down where snow had fallen on the rocks.
Properly attired, it wasn't very cold at 5-6⁰C because there was no icy wind. Neither did the relative lack of oxygen at 12,300 feet bother the two of us, both 65. We weren't very keen on trying to walk on the rocks where snowfall had filled in the many crevices giving the landscape a salt & pepper look. We took in the desolate beauty all around us, spent some talking to the many jawans apparently enjoying the sun before driving back to the lake.
It is a large lake, spread over 60 acres, almost oval in profile - 836 m long & 427 m wide at the widest point. Nestled between mountains, the still water reflected the snow-speckled peaks - a view that no visitor to Sikkim should miss!
The one thing that I did not like, the one thing that tempted me to take away one star from my rating, was the crowd - noisy but colourful - shattering the tranquility God designed this place for.
And then there were the yaks - massive creatures with more massive horns, yet gentle and sluggishly laid back, completely disinterested in you & your camera. Yak droppings lined their territory - dark spots, you might say, in an otherwise pristine environment.
