Up the Mountain: Kilimambogo Hills, Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park
Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park的点评
点评:We set out as a group (church) to hike Kilimambogo Hills at Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, almost 10 km to the summit. To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of KWS-manned parks: too many restrictions and very little guidance. That part was true here as well. But the hike itself? It far exceeded my expectations. My trainer had told me the hills were “very easy.” I must have heard wrong. They were not easy.
Trail 1 was manageable, slightly steep, but if you engaged your muscles, it was survivable. Then came Trail 2. Here, you need mind, body, and soul working together. Mostly the mind. There’s no time to figure out how; you just start climbing.
What stood out most was the cleanliness of the park. The flora and fauna felt untouched, like they had been there for centuries. The air smelt pure, and the peace of the mountain consumed us completely. The trails are well-prepared; all you need is a good stick and solid hiking shoes.
At 5.6 km, the trail disappears and you find yourself walking along the main road. That last kilometer uphill is no small feat. But once you reach the summit, the view below is breathtaking, stretching endlessly below and rewarding every step.
I’d recommend this hike to first-time hikers and anyone looking to test their cardio strength. It’s not as easy as they say, but it’s worth every climb.
