点评:Take the ‘Tourist Drive 17’ on your way to Gara Gorge (also known as Blue Holes), as it is named the ‘Best of New England’, the route takes you along the picturesque Waterfall Way and through World Heritage-listed national parks. Gara Gorge is located at the end of Castledoyle Road – you will see clear signage where to turn off. Entry is free with lots of free parking, picnic facilities and amenities. Amazing place for hikers with scenic views along the very rugged Gara Gorge, accessed along ‘Threlfall Walking Track’ (5km – time suggested 1.5 hours) in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, overlooking an old power station, along old embankments and through ancient cuttings of granite. The walk to the lookout is a round trip and roughly the same distance either way. We’re not an active family but the walk was ‘easy to moderate’ at a steady pace and be mindful that the walk back is uphill – not user friendly for strollers or wheelchair access. Along our walk, we were fortunate enough to see lots of birdlife, a Wallaby and a Jacky Dragon. You definitely need to wear good walking shoes, a hat and a big bottle of water to drink. Well worth a visit and a beautiful place to have a picnic.
