Unforgettable experience seeing a trogon in the wild for the first time

点评：I visited Coorg for a last minute getaway, and it is by incredible fortune that I picked the hotel I did (Aurika, Coorg) and met Ganesh on a nature walk. Upon talking with Ganesh, he readily understood the types of birds I wanted to see to acquire a solid representation of Western Ghats biodiversity.
I enjoy photographing each bird species, which requires a delicate balancing act of pace (to pick up a lot of species in different habitats) and patience (to wait for the perfect shot when the bird appears). Ganesh guided with precision and it was a delight to see and obtain good photos of Malabar Trogon, Malabar Gray Hornbill, Banded Bay Cuckoo, and Brown-cheeked Fulvetta (a rare visitor to the area), as well as identification photos of dozens of other specialties to the region.
Coorg is an amazing place to visit - a true hidden gem for overseas birders and nature enthusiasts. If you are planning a trip here, it is well worth arranging a nature guide with Ganesh, the Bird Man of Coorg. In addition to his enthusiasm for all things bird, he's also a great educator with regards to the coffee plantations in the area, as well as other insects and wildlife and even historical accounts of the region. Highly recommended!
