点评：We were here recently with our Jeep Club for a sunset ride.
My husband and I are part of a local Jeep club, and this was a Labor Day weekend ride. After meeting at a local store, about half a dozen Jeeps headed towards Horsepasture Rd. The ride to the trail alone was beautiful. The road to the overlook is about 9 miles, but you can expect 45 minutes to an hour to get to the lookout. You really need a 4 wheel drive such as a truck, Suv, or a Jeep. Though we did see several regular cars in the overlook area. If you're in a Jeep, it is stock friendly.
It is a bumpy ride, but the views alone are worth it. You will pass through forests. We saw several small waterfalls. Lots of mountain views. There are several overlooks on the way up. We stopped at one, and everyone got out to take pictures. Then you get to Jumping Off Point, which overlooks Lake Jocasse. Unfortunately, on this day, there were lots of clouds, so we really didn't get much of a sunset. But the views will take your breath away. There is a parking area and then maybe 50 feet up to the overlook. There are some boulders there you can sit on.
There is no admission here. You can primitive camp here, and there are plenty of places for that. There are no bathrooms here. Either stop before you go, or you will be hunting for a spot behind the bushes! You can plan on spending several hours round trip. Take extra precautions at night as there are no lights out here.
