Stunning Views, Worth Every Baht for the Ride Up

点评：We visited Samet Nangshe Viewpoint during our stay in Phuket and it was one of those trips where the journey is as memorable as the destination.
When you arrive, you pull into a rough dirt car park with a few stalls selling cold drinks, snacks, hats, T-shirts, and other bits you’d expect. From there you’ve got two options to get to the viewpoint, pay 100 Baht for a ride in the back of a truck, or 30 Baht to walk up. Unless you’re super-fit and happy to tackle a steep, dusty road in the heat, take the truck. It’s a bumpy but fun climb through the forest, and you get there in a few minutes without collapsing. We didn’t see a single person walking up.
At the top, the view is simply incredible. You’re looking out over Phang Nga Bay, with dramatic limestone cliffs and islands rising out of the water, mangrove forests below, and the sea stretching out to the horizon. There are several well-placed photo spots and the scenery changes slightly depending on where you stand. Even with a good number of people around, it never felt overcrowded or rushed.
There’s a café at the summit where you can get cold and hot drinks and light snacks. We sat for a while with a drink, enjoying the breeze and taking in the views from different angles. The visibility on the day we visited was excellent, and the photos and videos we took really don’t do it justice — it’s one of those places you need to see with your own eyes.
The trip back down is just as quick as the ride up, and before you know it you’re back in the car park.
Tips
- Definitely take the truck up and save your energy for exploring the top.
- Bring a hat, sunglasses, and water, even though there’s a café, the sun can be strong.
- If you can, visit earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon for softer light.
