点评:I have driven past this forest many times and wanted to visit for years. The reviews seemed positive so I took a chance and visited. Sadly it was very disappointing and heartbreaking to see.
First of all the signage has been lost from the road so it was difficult to find (follow signs to the Mpanga Eucalyptus project). The road in has not been maintained and you really need a 4x4 to reach even though it is not far from the main highway.
The centre is still there and you can see what it has potential to be. Accommodation, small bandas for sitting in, garden area with lawn (not recently cut).
There was a faded map showing the different walks and as we started out it was hopeful with an obvious path but as we moved into the forest it was obvious that none of the paths had been maintained. There was a lot of large tree fall, more than seemed natural and therefore fears that this natural habitat will soon be lost altogether.
We took the hornbill path but it was not possible to follow all the way so we made our way to the main path. It was good fun to climb over the large trunks on the main path but would not be accessible for someone with any walking limitations.
We did not see one animal either bird or primate.
There is so much potential for this place and it obviously had been well set up and thought out in the past. I really hope the forest authority reminds itself of its role and comes back to properly protect this environment and makes it accessible/enjoyable again for visitors
