A bit rundown and scruffy - could be so much better
Independence Square的点评
点评：Sunday 8th February we had been to visit Heroes Square, from there we continued to walk a short distance along Wharf Road. This took us up to the Charles Duncan O'Neal Bridge (reviewed separately).
O'Neal was a Trade Unionist and champion of workers right and honoured in Heroes Square.
We crossed the Bridge, which spans the Careenage, the waterway in the city.
This led to this paved square on the waterfront. It is home to a number of features including the large statue of Errol Barrow, Barbados's first Prime Minister (reviewed separately).
In the central part of the Square is a large mosaic circular fountain. At it's heart is the image of a broken trident, the design is also featured on the National Flag. It is symbolises independence from Britain in 1966.
There is a Greecian style temple/pergola in the Square.
A round the Square there is plenty of seating to sit and relax. Standing at the waterfront there are views across the Careenage to the City, Parliament Buildings and National Heroes Square.
At the time of our visit the Square was occupied by a number of rather scruffy people drinking out of beer cans and a certain aroma wafted through the air. In general it was dirty and untidy. The fountain was not working and the paint in the pergola was peeling adding to the downbeat feel to the place, could be so much better.

我们到访时，广场上有不少衣冠不整的人正用啤酒罐喝酒，空气中弥漫着难闻的气味。整体来说，广场又脏又乱。喷泉无法使用，凉亭上的油漆也剥落了，这一切都让这个地方显得毫无生气——其实它本可以变得更好。
