Awesome, challenging and a rare view from a Fire Tower!

点评：BEECH MOUNTAIN TRAIL AND FIRE TOWER:
Unexpected challenge for two seniors who were a bit out of shape but wanted a challenge.
Probably one of the more difficult hikes for our fitness level but it was so worth it when we completed this loop! A few yards into the trail it divides into a fork to the left or right.
I would not have gone on the left fork had I known about all the climbing over rocks and boulders that is required. The upward climb seems longer than it really is and goes on and on.
The hike is not long but you need good traction in your shoes and bring water because you will exert yourself. Had I known about the challenge on the left fork I would have done an in and out trek on the right side. Then again a young family with 2 young kids scrambled right up, no problem! Zoomed past us seniors but that was fine. We took our time. This is the quiet side of Acadia NP, crowds were nonexistent and you could really enjoy peace and a bit of solitude. Views at the fire tower were great. You are allowed up to just the first platform which allows you a broad view of Somes Sound, Echo Lake, Acadia Mountain, and other mountains on the east side of the Mount Desert Island. If it is going to rain definitely do not do the boulder side.
