Kayaking with Sea Synergy by Cahersiveen

点评：I have done some kayaking and Sea Synergy seemed to match my interests, so I booked for a 2 hour outing on the River Fertha by Cahersiveen. After sorting out kit for the participants and some instruction, we launched from the marina and paddled downstream. The kayaks were highly manoeuverable sit-on tops and as the weather was fine, paddling was very easy. Our leaders were knowledgeable about the local geology, geography and natural history and pointed out various features. We landed at Mannix Point to examine stones deposited by an ancient volcanic eruption and spot the remains of the volcano before going further downstream. Good views were had of Ballycarbery Castle. The water was shallow at times and it was possible to pick out oyster trestles, fish and crabs below us. We paddled up the channel north of Foughil Island where, as the tide had turned, there was a little current. On the return we heard some of the history of Cahersiveen barracks before landing back at the marina. Seldom has 2 hours passed so quickly and I fully recommend this activity.
