点评：A monument to the first spot where settlers first arrived on Sao Miguel. Povoamento is a fairly small, sleepy town with a small harbour but its probably worth the small stop if you are travelling on the EN1-1A. As well as the monument the other thing to take a look at is the Primeiro Povoador sculpture right on the sea front. Its made from the parts of a ship wreck and the hull of the ship is actually underneath the sculpture as they decided to use it as a base for the sea wall rather than try and move it, The old ships anchors form part of the sculpture, although there is no information plaque here to inform you of that.
