点评:My 14yr old daughter and I are "early intermediate" divers with AOW/JrAOW certification and 30ish dives logged each. We came to Croatian Divers for a 1-day 2-dive experience near the end of our holiday where we had completed 6 dives elsewhere in Vis and beyond on the trip.
Overall we had an odd and ultimately disappointing experience, and I cannot recommend this center.
The most disappointing part of the experience was the site they sent us to. We were the only 2 divers that day and shared boat with 2 snorkelers. We went to a site maybe 5-10 min out from the dive center. It was a little cove where there were already some swimmers (including a dog) who had driven there by car. The 1st dive consisted of us going left off the boat, along a shallow rock wall, then doubling back. Rock formations were mildly interesting and saw a few small critters, but we spent about 60% of the dive in an area at less than 3m depth basically snorkeling with scuba equipment and not seeing much.
Meh. I've had booring dives before. Maybe next site will be better. Oh? We're staying at the exact same location and just going to the other side of the cove? And yep. Pretty much identical. Ho-hum normalish shallow dive for 10 minutes along a rock slope at maybe 10m then ascending to 2-3 meters for more snorkeling in scuba equipment. I almost swapped to my snorkel at one point to save air because I could, then realized that would just prolong things.
I felt bad for our dive guide who was trying his hardest to make it interesting for us (all dive guides I interacted with were genuinely nice and helpful). But of the 9 or 10 dive centers I've been to I've never seen one put so little effort into matching us as divers to a potentially interesting/appropriate dive site. This would have been lovely for an Intro to Scuba or Open Water skills dive, but I left feeling like we paid 250 Euro for what I could have gotten for free by driving an extra 1km past the dive site over to the beach and jumping in with a snorkel and the dog.
Now for the odd stuff. Didn't ruin the experience, but gave weird vibes.
- A lot more "safety" rules than any other dive site I've been to, some quite sensible others felt like posturing
- Strict specific procedures for a number of things from how to pack your crate, to being asked to swap side of boat for balance while docked, motionless, level and just waiting to step ashore, to an odd/unclear division of responsibilities of gear prep between the diver and the staff, to 5 pages of waivers to sign (1 maybe 2 is typical).
- I got a 5 minute pitch from owner Bobby on whether we need a refresher dive "I know you dove recently but I tell this to all the divers". We had literally logged 6 dives in the last 6 days and despite me telling this to him up front, I got the full pitch anyhow, and politely declined.
- Owner suggested that I may want to shave my 4-day vacation stubble before I dive (presumably some worry about mask seal??)
- Multiple discussions about contact lenses (we both have) and how they are "not recommended" though they'd let us dive with them since we have experience with them. Good question to ask whether we have them, sure, but done very oddly.
- A few weird comments from staff about how Bobby doesn't like this or that, and watching Bobby micromanage some of their procedures made me realize I would never want to work for Bobby.
- My wetsuit and boots were near the end of what I'd consider their service life.
- No complimentary water on boat or in facility
- Deposit payable by card in advance (slightly unusual), but day-of needs to be cash (not communicated until we got there)
- Quick responsive communication via email, but missed some key details (e.g. cash only, telling us to arrive at 11:45 but not mentioning our dives didn't start until 1:30, BYO water policy etc.)
I could see this place being fine, maybe good even, for initial dives or certification, but we did not get the experience we were looking for.
