点评:Lithgow was the birthplace of the Australian Steel Industry. Constructed in 1913, the Lithgow Blast Furnace, at its peak, produced 105,000 tonnes of pig iron produced primarily for the Trans-Australia Railway.
I was absolutely fascinated by this location... it's a self guided walk through the area, but it has amazing signage that tells you about riots, migrant workers, the main players of the time and mostly about the areas you are visiting.
You can explore explore the site, which includes the foundations of No. 2 furnace, the brick base for the chimney stack, and remnants of various machinery like turbo-blowers and pig-breaking equipment.
There are toilets at the site an there is formalised parking available. The contrast between these industrial ruins and the stunning landscape is fascinating - for photographers this is a dream location. (I do not count myself as a photographer :) )
