点评:Lithgow was home to Australia's first serious iron and steel works and operated (off and on) between 1875 and 1928, when it closed and operations were transferred to Port Kembla. The site today has been restored as a historic park and contains scattered industrial buildings and relics, some of a very impressive scale. The most impressive I thought was a towering building (that I believe might have been a boiler house) that reminded me of the still-standing keep of a long abandoned medieval castle.
I thought even more interesting than the industrial ruins though are the information boards scattered throughout the site, that tell stories of life in Lithgow more than 100 years ago. There were stories of riots, strikes and strike-breakers, hard-nosed management, and some bitter battles. Some of the old photos on these boards are just brilliant, capturing the essence of the times.
