Birdwatcher's Paradise in Summer
Shigakogen Plateau的点评
点评：Since 2022, I have annually visited Shiga Kogen Plateau every year. I would like to say if you enjoy birdwatching and hiking, I highly recommend visiting Shiga Kogen Plateau in early summer, especially from mid-May to mid-June.
The clear blue sky on a sunny day, the snow-capped mountains of the Japan Alps, and walking among the fresh green trees are refreshing enough, but the early morning chorus of wild birds is simply magnificent.
The areas, especially the Ichinose area and the Shinshu University Education Forest, are perfect birdwatching locations. I enjoy by the sights and sounds of a wide variety of species, including the Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Common Cuckoo, Lesser Cuckoo, Willow Tit, Coal Tit, Japanese Bush Warbler, Asian Stubtail, Eastern Crown Warbler, Sakhalin Leaf Warbler, Japanese Leaf Warbler, beautiful and stunning Narcissus Flycatcher, Brown-headed Thrush, handsome Siberian Blue Robin, and Meadow Bunting.
In Shiga Kogen, there are many opportunities to encounter birds that are rarely seen in other areas. There are some good chances to see the scarce White-backed Woodpecker, elusive Northern Hawk-cuckoo, the beautiful Japanese Robin, and the charming Yellow Bunting and Grey Bunting.
During my most recent trip, May 2025, I was exciting to have wonderful encounters with the White-backed Woodpecker, Asian Stubtail, Yellow Bunting, and Grey Bunting during the three days stay.
