点评:We booked for a Sunday afternoon open day and had a great time. All the staff are volunteers with a passion for astronomy, they are knowledgeable and have a genuine interesting in sharing their insights of the cosmos with their visitors. The time flew by and we were genuinely surprised to find out we were the last to leave. There is a museum downstairs dealing with US and Russian space exploration and the history of the building. We attended a talk on meteorites and meteors, we enjoyed the planetarium show which has extremely comfortable seats that recline so you can see all the constellations on the overhead dome. There was live narration (not a recording) from an astronomer. We also visited the tea room, there was cake, savoury snacks and hot and cold drinks and a small gift shop. After that we visited the observatory room which is in a separate building, for demonstration of how the telescope works. The volunteer there was keen to get children involved and the looks on their faces as they rotated the dome, opened the observation window and moved the scope around was absolutely priceless. The next generation of astronomers perhaps? Thoroughly recommend a visit with your family.
