点评：I had a lovely visit to the Winery. Michelle was working the bar and gave me a great lesson on the Vineyard and Winery. I also received a great lesson on the grapes planted in the vineyard. My surprise was how involved Ian and Michelle are in the winemaking process. They work the grapes from the Vine through the aging process to the bottle. Black Birch Vineyard is a boutique winery located in the farming rich community of Hatfield. The Winery originally opened in 2012 then moved to Hatfield to expand in 2017. Currently there is 19,000 vines stretching across 12 acres of rich Connecticut River Valley soil. On this soil sits 10 varietals of grapes. The owners, Ian and Michelle, planted the grapes and through trail and error have what exists today. Grapes that can be found at the vineyard include Gruner Veltliner (planted in Austria), Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. The common thread of these varieties is cold-hardiness to help bear the cold. Like other growers in the area, they cultivate Traminette, an American hybrid that does well in the cold temperatures. Where they work the wine is in the same area the wine is tasted. A cozy winery to visit with good wine.
