Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park的点评
点评:Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park Is an extensive restored Revolutionary War fort that was the location of a key battle involving the notorious American traitor Benedict Arnold. You can see the layout of the earthen fort near the Thames River, with many informative placards explaining how the 1781 battle unfolded. The 166 steps inside the adjacent battle monument tower spill staircase lead to an observation platform with excellent views of the battlefield + the harbors of Groton & New London.
Next to the fort and its battlefield is an extensive museum building containing historic artifacts dating to the Indian Wars before the Revolution, and other artifacts leading up the the Spanish-American War. The Museum’s primary focus in on the Revolutionary War, with many artifacts related to just this battle. If you’re interested in this area’s history of the 20th & 21st Century, I’d recommend Fort Trumbull State Park (across the Thames River) for another fine display of more modern artifacts.
Note the Park’s location really isn’t located @ “57 Fort Street,” you may get a ticket of you park there. Look for the nearby Groton Library or the Monument obelisk, which is next to the Fort’s parking area.
