点评：We did the tour yesterday (1 May 2024). It worked fine and was worth it, even though it started raining when we reached the Upper Lake. Here’s some practical information:
Permit: Yes, officially you need a permit. We asked in our hotel where we stayed in the Chimgan region and they just printed a paper for us. In the end, however, nobody wanted to see it or asked for it.
Accessibility: It may be possible to reach the parking lot at Pskem village right under the lakes with a sedan, but I wouldn’t recommend to try it. We didn’t risk it with our rental car. Instead we took the first (and only!) occasion, where drivers with robust Russian Lada 4x4 offered their service. From there it was about 25 km or 1 hour driving to the lakes. After this spot the road immediately got worse: It was a dirt road, fairly washed out with mud puddles and infested with loose stones. Except one or two cars apparently driven by locals we say only 4x4, trucks and some mini vans. The price we negotiated (not trying very hard) was 350.000 Som, which we found appropriate for a three hour service there and back again plus waiting time. Otherwise, frankly, we wouldn’t have made it to the lakes.
Price: The ticket for the lakes which you pay at a little booth next to the parking lot below the lakes cost 17.000 Som per person.
Hiking: From the Lower to the Upper Lake and back it takes about 30 minutes up and a little less down. The footpath on the left side of the Lower Lake can’t be missed and it’s worthwhile to visit both lakes. We didn’t find it technically complicated, just be aware that the last half of the treck is rather steep.
All in all you shouldn’t miss it if you spend a few days in the area like we did. (As a day trip from Tashkent it involves 6-7 hours of traveling there and back again, so it depends…)
