Very good venue: on site fishery, lots of pegs, lots of decent trout up to 6lbs+

点评：Excellent 4 hours of fishing that yielded two decent trout (only purchased a two fish ticket, £40). A very warm day and the fish were in evidence but rather choosy on what to take. Unlike some trout lakes and fisheries who are struggling (some are even closed) during this summer's (2025) heat waves, Manningford is fed by good volume of fresh flowing water from an off-shoot (I'm sure there's a proper term for it) of the nearby Avon. Check Google maps and you'll see the layout. This means that the temperature of the water in the lakes is much cooler than other locations; the trout therefore are cruising nearer the surface and can easily be targeted. A major plus point in Manningford's favour. A review below rather slates the venue for silt, weeds and algae (which provide the fish with food of course) but careful positioning, casting and choice of fly enables the worst to be avoided. As most of the fish were cruising about 12"-18" below the surface we were using small nymphs and buzzers suspended to that depth on a strike indicator (New Zealand style in our case) that allowed flies to mostly stay clear of the weeds. Using wet flies, minimal sink time and quick retrieves again avoided the worst of the weeds. There are some clearer areas, particularly off the small jetty near the lodge where there are fewer weeds. All in all a great venue and one to put on your tick list if you're in the area.
