Located at a height of about 5800 feet above sea level about 25 km from Darjeeling and 30 km from Kalimpong, Lamahatta Eco Park is a must visit place for tourists visiting Darjeeling or Kalimpong. The entire park has vast stretches of pine, Dhuri and cardamom trees.
We visited on a clear sunlit morning of January 2025. From Darjeeling it took us about 45 minutes via Jorbangla travelling on a picturesque well maintained road. There is a trek (moderate difficulty) through the park to reach the top where you will find a small waterbody, considered holy to the locals. The trek took us about 40 minutes while going up and about 25 minutes on downhill. There is a cobbled track that travels through the lush green pine and dhupi forests. The view of Kanchenjunga was just stunning. There are few seats for taking rests, though the numbers are very limited. There are few tea stalls near the water body on top, where you can get tea, coffee, Maggi and hot steamed momo. For elderly people, people having knee problems or suffering from atsma, full trek is not advisable. They may climb upto midway to get a feel of the green pins trees. Nearer the main entrance, there is a watch tower, where you can climb up to get an unrestricted view of Kanchenjunga.
