A Few Tips About the Eton Walkway

点评：Most people come to Windsor to see the Castle, and leave. If you decide to stay in Windsor for more than a day, we highly recommend the pleasant walk north of town where Eton College is located.
You will cross the Eton Bridge. Immediately to your right is Cote Windsor restaurant with views of the River Thames. The food is good as we had eaten there twice.
You can do a “loop” of the town and college. Along the way are a number of cafes and shops. We did buy some shirts at the “Eton T-Shirt” shop. The 80th Anniversary of the end of WWII was a major theme in Europe in 2025.
You may run into a number of school groups in town. The students were on a scavenger hunt for historical places in Eton. We thought these students were most well behaved.
There is a small bridge where you cross over Barnes Pool. Over to your right is a vertical board with years posted when the river rose to certain levels. In 1774 was the highest of the water marks.
At the time of our visit, the Eton College chapel was closed. Nearby, though, is a courtyard with a captured Russian 1855 canon that is impressive. A new sports complex is being developed down along Slough Road.
If you have more time, a recommended visit to the Natural History Museum and even the Eton Museum of Antiquities is instore.
On one of our three days in Windsor, we did enjoy the “Queen’s Walk,” which is in easy walking distance just south of town. A paved path built by Queen Anne in 1710 provides a 3-mile trek to an 1829 statue of King George Third. You may even get to see the famous herd of Red Deer.
