点评:Despite visiting on the late May Bank Holiday weekend we didn’t find it too crowded. We had found out about this Springtime walk from the RHS where we are members.
Parking is available, free of charge, adjacent to the Admissions Kiosk and you are issued on entry with a really useful paper leaflet guide complete with map. You can then either navigate yourself around or follow the “Walk of the Week” which promises an array of colour, scent and vistas.
It certainly didn’t fail to deliver and also incorporated a walk around the pond, a visit to the Mausoleum and finished off at the Jubilee Garden.
The Woodland Gardens cover 30 acres and focus on all the beautiful Spring flowers and shrubs that epitomise this season in the UK. We had missed the bluebell season which sees these traditional blue flowers poke through the grassy areas in abundance. There were rhododendrons and azaleas though still in full bloom showing their wondrous colours alongside the woodland pathways. The sweet, citrusy floral smell of magnolia trees permeated the air and the owner understands the need for benches. Not just to take a rest but to also just appreciate the wonder around you.
We loved it and will definitely return next year replete with a lovely picnic.
