点评:We visited Udo Shrine (and Aoshima Island/Shrine and Horikiri Pass) via a taxi we chartered from the cruise port while our ship was docked in Aburatsu. It was extremely easy to organize and self-explore this way, because there were helpers who helped you choose your "sightseeing course," translate to the driver as needed, and the prices were set based on how many hours you needed. We paid ~$140 for 3 hours. We thought about adding on Obi Castle as well but decided against it, because we were tired and it was pretty rainy.
It would have been nice to have a guide to better understand the meaning of everything, but the scenery is so striking that it's very much worth a visit to self-explore. Imo it was strenuous to navigate because the terrain was rocky, steep, and slippery--especially in the rain. It also involved walking up and down many many stone steps--but it's very much worth the effort. So just be aware of that and wear proper shoes.
There's a nice rest area with a cafe, gift shop, and free, clean bathrooms as well.
