点评：Thank you, Vito, for a wonderful day we will never forget!
This is not your average, run of the mill, tour/food travel experience. We opted for the full tour and lunch experience and it was worth every penny. Vito was so gracious and went out of his way to make us feel welcome and special. He introduced us to his friends on the street, who were also a pleasure. The tour of his cheesemaking operation was fascinating. And of course, his cheeses were incredible—all of them. He shared stories of his family and how they came to run the family business. He even told us about how many of the cheeses were made and what was special about their versions.
Incredible cheeses we tasted just to name a few: Vito’s unique blue cheese with cherries and wine, “Mars” cheese—red pepper, aged provolone, “gold” cheese, blue cheese stracciatella, truffle stracciatella, home made sheep’s (or goat) milk Greek yogurt with honey, and so on…
We found talking with Vito a truly enjoyable experience. He was kind and informative about his city and craft. He shared interesting food knowledge with us—and if you are taking this tour, you are likely a foodie and will be fascinated.
Though his cheese bar was closed for renovation, and the weather was inclement, we instead enjoyed a tour of Altamura, a visit and tasting at an ancient artisan focaccia bakery, then a delicious lunch at the best restaurant in town. The food and drink were fantastic as he told us about the dishes and roles they play in the community.
