点评：In September 2025 I took a trip to western Mongolia to take in the Altai Nomad Games Eagle Festival and stay with an eagle hunting family in their autumn camp.
The festival is a smaller more intimate affair that affords the traveler an authentic, less commercial look at the traditional Kazakh culture.
My guide Erka Bakhit, operator of Mongolian TrekMates is a personable English speaking guy that grew up in the mountains surrounding Ulgii and knows the people and environment intimately.
We had a rare glimpse into eagle hunting on horseback high in the mountains, not witnessed by the average tourist. We watched the eagles soar in blue skies over the most magical landscape in search of their natural prey, the fox.
We stayed in traditional gers and ate the local Mongolian food cooked and served by a most warm and hospitable eagle hunting family.
I’ve traveled many places all over the world but I have never witnessed a more exciting time immersed in nature. And I will always cherish sitting on the hunter’s horse dressed in his personal hunting garb with his Golden Eagle perched on my arm staring out over those magnificent snow-white topped mountains.
