What a wonderful place to stay.
Lion and Cheetah Sanctuary的点评
点评：This is a genuine sanctury with rescued animals who will live out their lives here. I volunteered for eight days, was put up in one of the main guest chalets (I did go in low season), the food was great, the team wonderful, friendly, welcoming and just fun to be with. Although I didn't have to do anything that I found unpalatable, I helped prepare the meals for the smaller animals (meerkats, mongeese etc) as well as help cut up the meat for the hyenas, warthogs and big cats and them help feed them all except from the lions. The meat came from local sources and were animals that had lived out their lives, rather than being killed for feeding to the big cats.
Another task was to change the water for the cheetahs so every day I got to go and give the cheetahs fuss and ear scratches, and listen to their most wonderful purring. They may be aclimatised to humans but they are still wild animals and have to be treated with respect and (sadly) not cuddled like their domestic counterparts!
Guests tend to come for short stays. There are two game drives a day, both include a chance to have photos with the cheetahs, and the afternoon includes the daily feeding. There are two swimming pools, one up on 'the mountain' which is through the zebra and giraffe park. You are free to wander found the whole site, as well as through the zebras and giraffes, although obviously, access inside the meat eating animal enclosures is forbidden!
The owners have the animals' welfare as their priority. Indeed, it started with the owner rescuing a couple of lions and growing from there. It is the most wonderful place, close to Pretoria but feeling as though it's 100 miles away. I can't recommend it highly enough.
