Surprise Tailor Hoi An的点评
点评：Not worth the price – disappointed overall
I met John on the bus from Da Nang to Hoi An. He was friendly and told me about his tailor shop, Surprise Tailor. At the time, it seemed like a good opportunity and the reviews online looked great, so I decided to get a tuxedo and a pair of linen pants made.
The total price was $305 AUD, which I thought was fair for a custom suit. But straight away, I was asked to pay the full amount upfront with no option to leave a deposit. Looking back, this should’ve been a red flag. Usually, if a business really believes in the quality of their work, they let you pay the rest after you’re happy with the final product.
The tuxedo seemed okay during the fitting, but even then, I noticed some things felt a bit off — the shirt and jacket didn’t feel as well-made or fitted as I expected from a tailor. I’ve only worn it once since then, so I can’t say how long it’ll last.
The bigger issue was the linen pants. The fabric was thin and see-through — I could clearly see the pockets through the material. I told John I wasn’t happy with them, and to his credit, he did offer me a small refund (300,000 dong out of the 800,000 I paid). Still, I felt they were poor quality and overpriced.
One thing that really bothered me was how much pressure there was to leave a 5-star review right after the fitting — before I even had the finished clothes. I felt uncomfortable saying no at the time because I knew I had to return the next day.
I’d recommend checking out other tailors in Hoi An first. Don’t rush into anything just because someone seems nice or because the reviews look good. And definitely read the negative ones — they tell a different story.
